Olympic Peninsula Steelhead Fly Fishing Report – 4/21/13
Steelhead fishing on the Olympic Peninsula this season was unusual. We had some really good days, with some tough days as well. The fishing was not as consistantly epic as years past. We had a drought in Feb and with the first big push of rain we expected a pile of steelhead to be rolling into all the rivers, but they seemed to trickle in all season. I heard there was a low ocean survival rate this season. Who knows what caused that, maybe the tsunami in Japan bringing a lot of polution into the ocean where the steelhead are migrating. The return this year was 50% of the ten year average and last year we had a return of 200% of the ten year average. We are looking forward to next season, the parent years (2-4 years ago) we had very high returns of steelhead. Here are a few pictures from this season and theÊgalleryÊis updated with more full size photos.
