Angler’s Obsession in Florida

Go fly-fishing for bad-ass fish.

In April, Angler’s Obsession heads for world-class saltwater fisheries of the Florida Keys. Key Largo is where we base our operation, which gives us the ability to fish Islamorada, Biscayne Bay, and the Everglades. We’re obsessed with sight casting to the hard pulling gamefish of southern Florida. And what we do is simple—we take you fishing, and we catch fish:

  • Gently lay your fly ahead of the string of tarpon rolling down the edge of the flat straight at the boat.
  • Entice the bonefish pulling the shrimp fly over the shallow sand on the edge of the turtle grass.
  • Searching for tails piercing the surface of the water, allowing a target for the next cast.
  • Give a hard strip-set attempting to pull the hook into the hard boney mouth as the tarpon explodes into the air.
  • Poling the mangrove shoreline, casting under the overhangs in search of a predator lying in wait.

Southern Florida Fly Fishing:

The peak of the giant tarpon migration in the Florida Keys is between April and July. The main focus this time of year is sight-casting to 60-200lb tarpon, but there are also many other options. We are basing out of Key Largo, which will give us the flexibility to fish further down the keys, in the Everglades, or out of Biscayne Bay depending on conditions. We have options for ocean-side tarpon from Key Largo to Long Key and the backcountry tarpon fishing can be good between Islamorada and Flamingo. A lot of times we stalk bonefish around Key Largo and Biscayne Bay. We can also fish for Baby Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Barracuda, Jacks, and Sharks (on fly and light tackle).
