Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures

Angler’s Obsession is collaborating with David and Laura Taylor (former owners of Reel Wilderness Adventures) to bring back trip offerings at their amazing location and fishery in the Bristol Bay region of Southwest Alaska. We will be leasing the operation to run a very short season (July 18, 2015-August 7, 2015) with four clients a week!

Our tent lodge is located in the heart of the Wood-Tikchik State Park (the largest state park in Alaska) on Lake Nerka (Map). This is a true wilderness fly fishing camp experience.

This area is home to Alaska’s legendary wild Leopard Rainbows and is truly an amazing fishery with our home waters holding some of the highest concentration of wild native Trout in the state of Alaska. July sees the start of some of the best dry fly action in the state of Alaska. This exceptional dry fly action starts the last week of June and continues through the entire month of July and through the first couple of weeks of August. This is why our season is early July through early August, to hit the peak dry fly time. One of our specialties is catching Big Bows on dry flies. Watching a Rainbow as long as your arm rise to your dry fly is something all fly fishers should experience. This is some of the best dry fly fishing to large Rainbows anywhere.

We will also target four other species of Alaskan game fish: hungry Arctic Char, beautiful Grayling, aggressive Northern Pike and of course Sockeye Salmon. Our water shed annually sees the return of literally millions of Salmon entering each summer to spawn. This huge number of annual returning Salmon is what makes this area, and Bristol Bay in general, such a prolific fishery and we are right in the middle of it all!

Fishing Program:

Float plane in Saturday mid-day. We’ll have lunch, get your gear organized, then go out on the river and fish until dinner.

Here is the average day in AK. We get up, have coffee and breakfast, then head out fishing around 9am. We’ll fish hard, have a mid-day lunch on the water, and head back to camp around 7:30pm for a late dinner. If the bite really turns on towards the end of the day, we will stay out later. Our program is based around fishing, so if you want to stay out later and toss dries at rising fish, we can do that. We are very flexible, so we can adapt our fishing schedule to you.

We are centrally located in the State Park, so we have the ability to fish the Agulukpak for trophy rainbows. Also, we jet boat to other creeks, rivers, and pike bays around the park to offer a wide variety of fishing. The beauty is we don’t have any float plane weather delays, all the spectacular fishing is a short jet boat ride away.

As the week comes to a close on friday, head out fishing in the morning and come back to camp for lunch just before the float plane is scheduled to arrive. With our program, we maximize your time on the water with six full days of fishing.
